Working Ranches, Mark Mayo

If you are looking for a location for your next corporate, business, or family retreat; or a quality hunting adventure, the Hackamore offers you relaxing and comfortable accommodations to help you meet your individual, business, or personal interests.

The Hackamore was founded on quality outdoor opportunities in a rural, western setting, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Hackamore has several ranches that offer everything from secluded private getaways and retreats to ultimate outdoor adventures.

For large groups, you can exclusively book at headquarters guest house, lock the entrance gate, and have it all to yourself! Once you stay a couple days you may not want to return home! For info on our headquarters guest house see “Ellington Ranch.”

Ellington Ranch

The 5,500 acre Ellington Ranch, situated in NW Oklahoma, is a working cattle ranch and is operated as the Hackamore headquarters. The guest house is a spacious and beautiful facility with four large bed rooms, three baths, fabulous kitchen, den, and dining area. The lower level of the house has a large recreation room with a slate top pool table. The house is located on the upper bank of the North Canadian River. The large deck outside, as well as a huge backyard, lends well to large outside gatherings. The view is beautiful !

Maple YL Ranch

The 15,500 acre Maple YL Ranch was one of the first ranches in the Neutral Strip or “No Man’s Land.” Situated in the Oklahoma Panhandle, the YL has been a working cattle ranch since the late 1800s. The YL was home for Mark Mayo, and this ranch has fostered many a good kid, good horse, good cattle, and good cowboys. The YL has been featured in such books as Harry Chrisman’s “Lost Trails of the Cimarron” and the No Man’s Land Historical Society’s “Recollections of No Man’s Land.” The YL was also the setting for the John Erickson books, “Panhandle Cowboy” and “Hank the Cow Dog.” Yes, Hank was a real life dog on the YL and accompanied Mark on many a round-up. The YL Ranch offers you first hand western experiences with high plains outdoor flavor!

Three Sisters Ranch

The Three Sisters Ranch consists of 1,500 acres of excellent wildlife habitat split by the North Fork of the Red River near Erick, in far Western Oklahoma. Sunsets over the North Fork from your vantage point on the high ground of the ranch are second to none. Hunt the high ground or along the river for a trophy white tail, quail or turkey. While primitive camping is available, you may want to try the excellent facilities and restaurants located within 5 miles of the ranch on Interstate Highway 40. These include the Rafter T Restaurant, successor to the famous “Cal’s” restaurant, Cowboys Restaurant & Trading Post, and the newly constructed Comfort Inn (50 rooms with indoor pool). You can also mosey over to historic Erick to sleuth around the birthplace and home to the late, great musician, Roger “King of the Road” Miller and one of the great cowboy character actors, Sheb Wooley.
